The second call for proposals of the European Commission's seventh research Framework Programme (FP7) will focus on cooperative systems using vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications.
Scheduled for mid-2007, the second call will have a budget of €48 million and aim at security and deployment of cooperative system services and technologies. It will also target enhanced efficiency in real-time traffic management and improved in-vehicle active safety systems, with the end purpose of reducing traffic accidents and environmental impact of road transport.
User acceptance will be another main focus that will be assessed at the Field Operational Tests (FOT's). FOT's are large-scale test programmes, and together with cooperative systems, are one of the main themes of the FP7 ITS research programme, on which an estimated total of €700 million EC funding will be spent over the period 2007-2013.
