Monitoring of dangerous goods transportation in Europe

MITRA is a project funded by the European Commission under the 6th Framework Programme, which aims to develop a prototype central information system for high-risk and dangerous loads being transported across Europe by road or rail. Based on the air traffic control concept, the system will provide police and emergency-service centres across Europe with real-time information on the contents and position of dangerous cargos circulating in their responsibility area; but also warning and alert displays in case of dangerous situations, and crisis management information, allowing intervention teams to react immediately in case of an accident.
