FOT-Net
Network for Field Operational Test activities
FOT-Net is a Specific Support Action funded by the European Commission DG Information Society and Media under the Seventh Framework Programme (duration: 27 months, starting on 1 June 2008).
A large number of ICT-based transport applications have been successfully developed and demonstrated in collaborative research projects throughout Europe. Today, there is a growing need to clarify certain issues which are crucial for the market introduction and penetration of these systems:
- How does the driver use the system?
- What are the short and long term effects?
- How can the systems’ performance be further improved?
By testing the systems on a large scale, in real driving conditions and during a significant period of time, Field Operational Tests (FOT) can answer these questions. The results of FOTs will enable policy makers to establish the right policy framework for the deployment of these systems, and business leaders to make informed decisions about their market introduction. FOTs will be the next step for the deployment of cooperative systems.
FOT-Net aims at supporting the European Commission in bringing together European and international stakeholders to form a strategic networking platform. The purpose of this platform is to offer a series of seminars on FOT methodology and regular stakeholder meetings to share experience and information about Field Operational Tests ongoing or finished at national, European, and international level.
FOT-Net is open to all stakeholders from public and private sectors willing to exchange and benefit from each others’ learning experiences.
